Quantity surveying opportunities do not always appear under the words "quantity surveying tenders." A public buyer may advertise cost consulting, bills of quantities, project controls or a multidisciplinary professional-services appointment. If you search only one phrase, you can miss relevant work—or spend time on a construction contract that needs a building contractor rather than a consultant.

Search by the service the buyer needs

Try several related terms when you search live notices: quantity surveying, cost consultant, cost management, bill of quantities, BOQ, measurement and construction project management. Do not assume every result is a suitable QS appointment. Read the scope: a supply or works tender may mention a BOQ without seeking a quantity surveyor.

Start with professional-services tenders and compare relevant construction notices. Use location and buyer filters where your team can deliver. Search results are a discovery tool, not the final evidence of eligibility.

Recognise three different kinds of notice

• Direct QS appointment: the buyer explicitly requests cost planning, measurement, tender documentation or cost-control services.
• Multidisciplinary team: QS is one role among architects, engineers or project managers; check whether the buyer wants a lead consultant, a consortium or separately appointed disciplines.
• Construction works: the buyer requests a contractor to build or repair something. A BOQ in the pack does not turn this into a QS appointment.

This distinction prevents you from bidding under the wrong service category. Screen the opportunity before preparing a proposal
